Tracks and trails. Once, Coyotes were daily visitors here and we took them for granted - they were our tracking club's steadfast 'tracking teachers.' Now, Coyotes are observed only once or twice a year, an it is Gray Foxes who patrol this beach daily.
This was an efficient patrol trail covering long distances without distractions or play, and not associated with any human tracks. But it was significantly larger than G Fox, and on the small side for Coyotes. Track details suggest Red Fox but that species is very rare on the coast here and never before observed by our tracking club, so we are very interested in the community ID!
My guess from these tracks. Skunks are common in the hillside areas. print next to card is about 2" long, other one is about 3" wide. Some tiny claw marks show.
After 4" of rain in Dec 2021, there had to be standing pools of water along this unpaved road. many animal tracks accumulated here.
