Lithobates sylvaticus breeding in large vernal pool. Ice covering the surface except for about 1-2 meters around the edge. Some individuals seen standing out on the ice. Ambystoma maculatum, Pseudacris, and Notophthalmus also present.
Breeding Ambystoma maculatum in large vernal pool. Males seemed more abundant than females. Surface of pool still mostly covered in a thin layer of ice. Some individuals still had relatively pale coloration. Many were traveling to the pond up through a shallow stream running out from the pool, with spermatophores deposited in the stream. Lithobates sylvaticus, Pseudacris crucifer, Notophthalmus viridescens, and large Lithobates tadpoles also present in the pool.
