After looking through a lot of the photos for suggested species, I'm thinking that this moth is very worn out. It appears that it's very dull but some of the patterning resembles Agrotis ipsilon.

North American Porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum)

Observer

Date

April 2021

Description

This North American Porcupine crossed Meadow Branch Ave and wandered into some green space on the east side of the road. A slow-moving, fat mammal covered in sharp quills. This is the first live porcupine that I've seen in Virginia. I picked up a porcupine that had been hit by a car on VA 55 near the Hardy County, WV border about 15 years ago. That specimen is in the Smithsonian Institute.
