Literally saved it from imminent death at the Ukiah Transfer Station. It arrived in a load of garbage, a non-fan attendant was wrangling it with a push broom when I pulled up. No idea where it came from. I released it in a big ditch south of there.

The snake regurgitated a sizeable slug into the holding tub while I unloaded my own garbage. Should be visible in the photo.

Our latest residents in the backyard Bluebird nestbox made us worry because the Dad disappeared for more than a week. We feared that something very bad had happened to him and that Mom would not be able to guard the babies and also forage for food. So I went to Petsmart and bought live mealworms, one of their favorite foods. It took only a few hours for Mom to discover the snack in a dog bowl outside the nest box. But then something totally unexpected happened. Dad showed back up. Apparently he had been sitting on the eggs. So now we have the happy couple reunited and trained to use a dog bowl for meals. Who knew?
