Hope these photos aren't too horrible so someone can help with ID for these fish. Seen from TRI footbridge. Took my best guess for identification.
Small tributary of the Housatonic River that holds wild trout.
Wild brook trout caught in the Wood River
Wild Brown Trout, about eight inches. Caught on a dry fly.
A great stream that was wiped out in a flood in 95' that has rebounded greatly, one of my biggest natives has come from here.
A rare and big Jackson River wild brook trout.
Lower Piney river brook trout, most of the stream from where Perkins Mills meets Jacks Hill road upstream supports natives.
Large (around 18 inches), light brown, plenty of spots. Probably a spawner. Fish was resting quite still near mid-stream. Was able to get within 6 feet or so to take these pictures. Fish was not interested in any offerings of mine.
I would like to think this is a wild, native Brookie, but I'm not sure. It is possible that the state stocks brook trout in this stream, but I don't know about stocking them this size. The Millers River is known to get quite warm in the summer - too warm for trout - but it has numerous feeder streams that stay cold, and appear to provide summer refuge for trout.
