Underneath a decorticated, moss-covered, heavily-decayed, hardwood log.
Habitat: mature, closed-canopy, hardwood forest.
This was found under a rock, it was tending to aphids.
Underneath a stone. Habitat: Closed-canopy (more or less), secondary hardwood forest with a variety of canopy species.
Discovered in spongy soil of flat garden within 200 feet of a marsh. Of a random sample of 16 workers, 12 measured greater than 4 mm long and 4 were at least 3.5 mm, which indicates “larger” species. STRONG sweet smell of citronella upon discovery.
Citronella scented Lasius sp ants tending aphids on upper root crowns of Taraxacum.
