What

Prickly Pears (Genus Opuntia)

Observer

brianpennington

Date

January 25, 2020 12:16 PM UTC

Description

Young pads can be eaten (nopales). Fruit are tasty and can be bought in the store. Use tongs to harvest because there are invisible thorns that will irritate. Burn fruit after to remove invisible thorns (glaucids(sp?). Be very careful of them. You can scoop out seeds if the fruit is big enough and eat the flesh in between. Places with more water will have better fruit in general.
