Description

This hornet/wasp was found near an open area of grass with few trees and flowers around. Like other wasps, it has the characteristic black and yellow patterns on its body, with a slim frame. It was approximately 1/2 inch. Hornet nests can be found across the country in plants such as high trees or even on man-made buildings. Description

This round perennial plant can be found just about anywhere on the USF campus. It's identifiable by its round head and short stems. It's often found growing on the side of sidewalks or in large fields. It's bright green allows the plant to blend in nicely with the surrounding grass when in fields. The round leaves are about the size of a quarter, and the stems are usually no larger than 3 inches. These plants are spread by rhizomes.

Description

Spotted at Lettuce Lake Park about 2 miles away from the USF Tampa on 10/13/2018 at 4:09 pm. Forest habitat, 82 degrees Fahrenheit, sunny with no precipitation, 5 mph winds. Due to the fact that this specific type of rabbit is so common in Florida, it was easy to determine that this was a Cottontail Rabbit based on pictures from iNaturalist and Google.
