Sharp-shinned Hawk (Accipiter striatus)Observer

Spotted this juvenile on the bluff just above me.
Additional information: the log that the bird is on is 8 inches in diameter. That would indicate that it is a Sharp-shinned Hawk, not a Cooper's Hawk. A Cooper's Hawk would be roughly twice the size of the log.

The Passenger Pigeon, Ectopistes migratorius, once considered the most abundant bird in North America, became extinct one hundred years ago.
I saw these taxidermized specimens at a great collection especially diverse in birds at the Welder Wildlife Foundation, in Texas.
