I love the beautiful golden-green color of this species.
Unsure of exact location.
Banded and released
Hawk spent about 10 mins on the fence above a brush pile where house sparrows hang out. At one point jumped up and down on the plle, seemingly to flush one out.
I’ve wanted to find one if these!
I saw four of these birds kettling. I thought they were Mississippi Kites, but when I looked at the images I see some white bands on the tail feathers. The birds have a brown color tone.
Mystery solved, I learned that juveniles can have brown coloring with bands on tail feathers.
We have not seen these winter visitors since about 2011-2012.
