Description

Dry leaf mimic almost has me fooled

I was thrilled to spot this dry leaf mimic mantid and happened to spot another two days later. I had not seen one before and almost passed by the bush it was perched on. I first saw 4 of the legs attached to the plant and then took some time to realise what I was looking at. It is perched upside down with the front pair of legs tucked in. See detail crop in the photos. The wavy dorsal projection on the head is also interesting.
