Rocky Mountain Clearwing (Hemaris thetis)

Observer

Date

June 2015

Description

I saw a Hummingbird Moth like this flitting from flower to flower at about 2:00 p.m. in my garden. Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me and haven't seen it again (yet!). Through the power of the internet, I put in "bumblebee moth" as that is what it looks like at first glance...and surprise, the search engine found it!

Went out at about 3:30 and while standing by some valerian, the Rocky Mountain clearwing came back..and so I was able to get these photos!

I have updated this observation to reflect the input of others listed on this page. From what I can gather, according to a variety of websites, the Rocky Mountain clearwing is also known as the California clearwing (4-13-17)
