I think this is a native water rat/rabe or now referred to by the Aboriginal name ‘Rakali ‘
This cute little Australian rodent looked like he/she was either preying on or being preyed upon by an octopus!
You can see the octopus tentacles in pics
Just before I stated filming she was being rolled around in the water by suction-cup covered tentacles -then you can see she takes off swimming underwater at speed until she climbed up underneath a neighbouring jetty
This carnivore plays a crucial role in the the ecosystem being at the top of their food chain (except for octopuses!)
And keep the brown and black rat numbers down ….I have never seen one before …has anyone ?
