This was a big guy - probably the biggest snake I've seen in the wild. It was sunning himself on the trail. Possibly 5 ft. long. It appears to have a tick next to its eye.
We walked past it and it didn't budge. I thought it might be asleep, but these photos show its eyes open.
This was the shortest rattlesnake I've seen on the PCT. It was no more than 24 inches long.
eating a unknown lizard species
Scales stretched apart much of the body length. Probably just ate another snake.
Juvenile snake. Basking on small rock adjacent to a road rut containing water in grassland habitat. Not 100% sure on ID
couldn't tell if it was dead or just a shedding, but either way we turned the tire on it's side so others wouldn't get stuck
Might have been run over, definitely still alive and only minor visible signs of injury
