Fox Squirrels

Fox Squirrels are the largest tree squirrels in Tennessee. They dwarf Eastern Grey Squirrels when in close proximity, and are aggressive towards these smaller relatives. They are also a very handsome squirrel with a dashing bright orange color on their underparts, and a bright white muzzle. Although some people call them Red Squirrels, they aren't very similar to these little pipsqueaks. They enjoy an offering of corn, peanuts, or sunflower seed, and may become a pest to those with backyard bird feeders. Enjoy a visit of these guys if you're in the southeast, as the aren't very common, especially when compared to their prolific grey furred cousins.

Fall is Coming!

As winter approaches, butterflies swarm flowers in swarms, like hummingbirds, fueling up for a great migration. Other visitors too are to be seen at your backyard flowers, bees, wasps, and even nocturnal moths! Keep an eye out! It won't be long before fall migrating birds are flocking the woods! Keep your feeders filled, and you may be surprised when grosbeaks, warblers, or tanagers stop by to fuel up. Flowers bloom extensively, look for Partridge Pea, Blue Mistleflower, Tall Ironweed, and Cardinal Flower, especially along roadsides.
