I plan to chronicle the growth of a few types of ferns over a season, making frequent observations of the same site over the year. I'll post the observations and tag them with a site-specific code, so searching for the tag will find all the observations for a site.
Starting with a Christmas fern at Rocky Gorge reservoir by the trail just past tree #1 across from the blueberry bush. There's a cluster of three ferns, each with multiple fronds radiating from a central region. Fiddleheads are now emerging but haven't even risen above the leaf litter in this group yet. I'm documenting the central fern of the group of three. I'm tagging this fern 'cf1'. The first two observations are associated with this post.
Update 5/16: As I find new ferns to watch, I'll add them with their tags here. (The first two I added to new posts, but then they end up scattered; keeping the list centralized is better).
