Plants around My Neighborhood Lake

Today I went on my nature walk at 4:30 around the lake in my neighborhood with one of my neighbors, six feet apart of course. It was cloudy and chilly today around 55 degrees today where I live in Potomac, Maryland. The picture identified as "Something..." shows a wider view of the lake which I walked around and observed during the walk. Not only was it nice to get some fresh air, but it was also refreshing to take a deeper look at the species that inhabit the area around the lake I have walked around many times before. With the amount of visible flora in and around the lake, I decided that the theme of my walk would be PLANTS! There were many species of plants, white, yellow, pink, and even purple in color. I also saw some epiphytic species of plants as well, such as ivy branches on tree branches and mosses growing on tree trunks. In addition, there was visible marine life in the lake, including minnows and turtles. Overall, the wildlife in and surrounding the lake was very diverse. I look forward to continuing to look deeper into the species that grow around me during my walks and hikes this quarantine.

Diving deeper into Edmands Park

Glad that I waited until today for my weekly nature walk with two of my friends. The weather was perfect, which was a great mood booster. It was around 70 degrees when I went for my walk and still sunny, even at 4:30 p.m.! This is my second visit to Edmands park and this time I decided to walk a different trail than I did last week. Many of the trees were barren, but there was plenty of moss on the rocks and fungi on the branches to observe. I also noticed that there was more moss on fungi on the trail that I walked today than last week. There were plenty of Newton residents walking the trails with their dogs and friends. Having this park right behind the Newton dorms are a perk of living on this campus I didn't know that I had, this was was the best part of my day. I also saw a few squirrels and insects, but not too much wildlife. There were some bushes as well and the ground was still covered in the fall leaves. I will definitely continue my visits to this park.

Nature walk around Edmands Park

Today I went on a walk around Edmands Park behind Keyes Hall on Newton Campus with my friend from class, Joe. It was around 5:00 p.m., or "golden hour," and it was 60 degrees F. The weather was perfect and the walk was very relaxing. The trail that we walked through the park was covered in leaves and surrounded by a diverse group of trees, including Pine, Oak, and Spruce trees. All was quiet except for the squirrels prancing in the leaves. There were also plenty of American Robins and various fungi. I look forward to walking different trails in the park throughout the semester when I need some peace and quiet, especially because of it's great location.
