Description

Small multiple heads, up to five, long peduncles that stand above the leaves.

This and observations https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/25604391 and https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/77859543 are of the same structure and features as Gray's designated holotype https://s3.amazonaws.com/huhwebimages/DF1900526149484/type/full/4060.jpg. Of interest is that the Umatilla Depot site is a sandy plain as is the note on the herbarium sheet. Both the Umatilla site and this site are sandy Bretz flood deposit sites. The Umatilla Depot site in fact sits on a extensive sandy plain. This observation site is a steep sandy talus slope derived from varved Bretz sediments. Additionally,
the B. careyana along Highway 730 to the east at the Twin Sisters is also that of high head count plants.

Description

The individual plants in this location are demonstrating features considerably different from the general population. A particular note for the crenate leaf margins. Although it is uncommon in B. careyana it is present in observations in Umatilla County.
