@uheise Can you add the terms 'basic' and 'alternative' to describe birds that have a 'non-breeding' or 'breeding' but doesn't correspond with the times of the actual breeding season. For example, a Franklin's Gull (or any hooded gull), has it's breeding, or alternative, plumage from January to about May, latest June. They start breeding in April or May, so both summer or breeding plumage is considered incorrect. That's why recent ornithologists have made the terms basic, for 'winter', and alternative for 'summer' to describe this odd molt times.
