Description

Barn Owl Pellet #A-22
Since this pellet is so small, I'm guessing it's from the juvenile that roosts in this tree with its mother.

Location: (Site-A) Found under the pine tree where this owl roosts:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/173672073

Pellet length: 1.25 in (3.2 cm)
Pellet age: < 2 weeks
Dissected? Yes

It's amazing that the remains of 3 species and possibly 5-6 individuals were found in this small pellet:

  1. (North American Jerusalem Cricket) https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/182270119
  2. (Long-tailed Shrews) https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/182270120
  3. (Western Harvest Mouse) https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/182270121
  4. (North American Deer Mice) https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/182270122

Note: I don't have a photo that shows all contents together.

@james5: You might want to change this to a taxon field too. But note the system doesn't automatically do a lookup on the old text value and translate to a taxon value (stored as its taxon number). So on each observation that uses it you will manually have to edit the field and get it to do the taxon lookup and save.
In this case it is trival as there is only one observation with an actual value:
http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/1628196.

Mind you an advantage of having a text field, is that people can add multiple species on one line - difficult to search for later though!

I note that iNaturalist doesn't really handle multiple copies of the same type of field well (you can't ask it to lookup all the species in the "preyed on" field and the "other prey species field" at the same time).
