Comments

We set this field up to record whether insects we collected visiting flowers had pollen grains visible on them when viewed under a microscope.

Jon,

I started using this observation field in conjunction with Pollinator Associations. It has value as many pollinators in the project have visible pollen. I would like to make a request to change the order of acceptable responses. The project entry tool that I am using lists the suggested observation fields. I have found that listing the needed field value first the data entry is expedited. The data is positive biased as a "no" or "not recorded" is not entered or recorded. If you would kindly re order the list to "yes|no|not recorded" that would be helpful the project data entry.

Thank you,
Mart

Thanks Mart,

The problem I find with adding a real value first is that both on the iNat app and the website it's possible to accidentally add the field to an observations with the first value. I've watched people do it.

That means that I tend not to trust first values from fields and always add something like "not recorded" first. That way if someone puts "yes" on their observation, I know they really mean it. I would worry that if we put "yes" first, some unknown proportion of the "yes" observations will not mean "yes" making the data of questionable use.

I'm happy to be convinced otherwise, but that's my logic in putting the values in the order they are at the moment.

Jon,

I thought that might have been your rational and understand. I am doing the curating on the pollination projects and know the procedure and intent. However, if you are finding questionable data entry I will withdraw the request.

Thank you for the consideration,
Mart
