Comments

One can assume that Observations marked "Research Grade" have had their names now published.

Those with status "Needs ID" are yet to be published.
Those just published will be attended to after (1) publication (2) acceptance by POWO & (3) a flag on the genus is added to notify the site curators, citing an electronic link to the publication.

Beware of adding too complicated a field value. The aim is to collect all instances for research.
So a name like "Osteospermum sp 3" is fine.
But a name like "Otholobium stachydis (L.f.) C.H. Stirt. & Muasya comb. nov. ined." or
"CCS3 / C. sp. nova 2 (www.researchgate.net/figure/Proposed-distributions-of-the-dwarf-lemurs-of-Madagascar-Geographic-distribution-of_fig5_272157146.)"
is going to present problems and will never really properly be duplicated without a typo, and therefore be missed by the filters.

If you need to fully document the source, rather put that in a comment on the observation than in the observation field itself.

Examples of filters:

Generic (new species):
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?verifiable=any&place_id=any&field:New%20species%20reference%20and%20name

Specific: - for "Osteospermum sp 3"
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=any&subview=grid&verifiable=any&field:New%20species%20reference%20and%20name=Osteospermum%20sp%203

or to find all instances of new species of a genus - e.g. Indigofera:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=any&subview=grid&taxon_id=83365&verifiable=any&field:New%20species%20reference%20and%20name=

or to find all new species in a region (e.g. Cape Flora):
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=122243&subview=grid&verifiable=any&field:New%20species%20reference%20and%20name=

Note when using this field in filters, some characters can destroy the filter fields. Especially problematic are & and ? - you will need to convert them to %26 and %3F to get the filters to work.
When downloading data, note that some of the %20 (=space) are converted to "+" - these will need to be converted back to %20 for the download filter to work.
