Young Spring season asexual phase fruiting on a heavily waterlogged/decorticated hardwood. Acer macrophyllum surrounding area.
Harvested 2 specimens.
Analyzed/photographed grayish powdery surface with Apexel macro lens attachment at 24X.
Removed small paper thin layers of outer tissue and mounted on a glass slide in 3% KOH.
MICROSCOPY:
Conidia: tear drop shaped(Lacrymoid) to elongate/fusiform. Hyaline and thin walled(translucent in KOH).
Produced from dense bundles of cylindrical irregularly shaped elements/columns.

Harvested 12 specimens attached to portion of host/substrate.
Analyzed/photographed large setae at home with Apexel 12/24X macro lens attachment.
Performed crush mount of tissue in Lugol’s solution and 3% KOH.
MICROSCOPY:
Spores: multiguttulate(multiple small granular dots/granules within each spore). Elliptical, ovoid. Spores slightly wrinkled/verrucose. Medium/large in size.
Asci: 8 spored, cylindrical. Non-amyloid.
Setae: spear like, very large, with a single septa(notch) in center of most analyzed(biseptate).
Paraphyses: With SWOLLEN APICES.

Volva: tight, collar like but not flaring.

A very robust/large single specimen fruiting from an old pile of Acer macrophyllum leaves. Across from Watershed park area on Henderson Blvd.
Noticed while driving home from Squaxin.
Size: 8 inches from base to cap apex.
Harvested specimen.
Removed single gill and mounted in 3% KOH.
MICROSCOPY:
Spores: Ellipsoid to ovoid, medium orange brown, large sized, germ pore.
Cheilocystidia: club like, irregularly shaped, cylindrical to irregularly lageniform. Thin walled.
Basidia: 4 sterigmate. Broadly clavate rounded in shape.
Gills starting to stain brown from spore deposit by the time I finished with microscopy.

Stem: pruinose, large abrupt bulb at base.
Cap: brownish orange, umbonate. Radial fibrils around darker central disc.
Odor: none detected.
Harvested specimen.
Removed single gill and mounted in 3% KOH on a glass slide.
Spore print: grayish brown.
Microscopy:
Spores: ellipsoid, medium sized, smooth, thick walled.
Cheilocystidia: Metuloid, large, thick walled with encrusted golden tips.
The occurrence in spring, completely pruinose stem with abrupt bulb, brownish orange cap with raised fibrillose disc, smooth ellipsoid spores and encrusted cheilocystidia match well for Inocybe praecox.

Stem: completely velvety/minutely hirsute.
Orange overall, deep rooting stem base darker orange(but equally hirsute).

Gills: not crowded but close. Notched/mature.
Odor: slightly metallic.

Reddish brown overall with minute shelving above pores.
Harvested two sections.
Applied 3% KOH to surface. Darkened, but no distinct change after 5 minutes.
Removed thin pore layer surface/tissue and mounted in 3% KOH on a glass slide.
MICROSCOPY:
Setae: abundant along outer edge of tissue. Long and spear like with fine pointed/sharp tips.
Basidia: 4 sterigmate.
Hyphae: Septate, notches, notch points slightly flaring at intersection or where separated.
Spores: Ellipsoid, with a single guttule(oil dot) in center of each spore(appearing like black eyed peas). Very small, thin walled.
All macroscopic and microscopic features match for F. ferruginosa.
