Description

Today I noticed a whole lot of intact crab remains, all of them quite small, in patches on the grass of the side yard here.

Most were small swimming crabs but this one is a different species.

I am thinking maybe a heron or egret or night heron ate them down on the beach and then later flew up here and either threw up or pooped out the intact skeletons?

I discovered a whole lot of intact remains of small crabs (all the same size) in patches in the grass on the side part of the yard! I am assuming maybe a heron or an egret had eaten them all, and then threw up the remains? Or pooped out the remains?

To me this is a bit of a mystery, but maybe not a mystery to a birder!

Description

Rescued from drowning in the house's swimming pool this morning.

Once it recovered a bit, this moth held its wings over its back, as you can see in the 3rd and 4th images.

You can also see that the wings are not simply grey and white -- they are also have an area of pale blue and an area of cream.

The area towards the end of its back shined as if that part was covered in gold leaf -- very pretty.
