There's an app for us

iNaturalist NZ — Mātaki Taiao uses the iNaturalist app

Android app on Google Play iPhone app in the Apple App Store

iNaturalist NZ — Mātaki Taiao is the New Zealand community inside the global iNaturalist network. All observations you make on iNaturalist NZ simultaneously become part of iNaturalist.org. You get all the world's naturalists looking at your hard to identify plants and creatures and we share all of New Zealand nature with the world. It's an amazing mutualism.

You can be a part of the iNaturalist NZ — Mātaki Taiao community on the web at inaturalist.nz. Or, if you have an iPhone or Android smartphone or an Android tablet or iPad, you can install the iNaturalist app and sign in with your New Zealand user details.

Below are some screenshots of what you see when you first use the iNaturalist app on iPhone. Tony Stoddard of WWF made a handy step-by-step guide to using the app to add a kereru observation, for the 2015 Great Kereru Count. Check it out if you want some more tips.

We used to maintain a separate NZ app for iPhones but that stopped making sense when the global iNaturalist app started working just as well for New Zealand. The iNaturalist app has dedicated people from the iNaturalist global team working full time to make it better and better.

We recommend that you update your iNaturalist app regularly, and especially to fix the June 2018 domain change from NatureWatch NZ to iNaturalist NZ.
