The neighbors call me the Crazy Bug Lady. My mother used to swear I could call dragonflies to my finger when I was a toddler and I've been interested in them ever since. I tried to major in both biology and computer science at college like a crazy person. I never managed the degree in invertebrates, but the interest is still very strong.

I'm an amateur naturalist who specializes in insects. I'm from the northeast, so I know those species best. My favorites have always been the Damselflies and Dragonflies (Odonata). I volunteered for the entirety of the (now complete) New Hampshire Dragonfly Survey. I was in the top twenty contributors of volunteer hours surveying sites, and found a few new to county records. You can see my pictures from the survey at the flickr site. They aren't going to win any awards, but they do show the necessary fieldmarks.

The survey may be over, but several of us can't give it up and still survey sites regularly.

Besides dragonflies, I also chase butterflies, caterpillars, beetles, spiders, bees, and wasps. My current obsession is learning to ID and watch moths. My husband is an aggressive bird lister, which meant I had to learn them too, although I'm better at birdsong ID than long distance visual ID. Just about any fauna can catch my interest. And eventually I'll have to learn flora to better ID caterpillars by their foodplants.
