In my later years (I'm 75 years young), I've developed an insatiable appetite for enjoying nature. I am a certified Texas Master Naturalist (as of 2017) and a member of the Golden Triangle Audubon Society.

My current project is conversion of the now defunct "The Palms Golf Course on Pleasure Island" to "The Palms Nature Trail and Bird Sanctuary." My time has been split between shoveling and weed-eating along the cart pathways and observing the wildlife that frequents the area. I have seen snakes, alligators, birds, deer, turtle, bobcats, butterflies, moths, insects. My hope is that the City of Port Arthur will begin supporting my effort.

2020 Update: In January we moved from Pleasure Island in Port Arthur to Montgomery, TX; therefore, my current observations are primarily in Bentwater, on Lake Conroe, or in the Sam Houston National Forest. During COVID-19, backyard birding was a daily activity. I also became a Doug Tallamy convert and removed a significant portion of our lawn to create my "Homegrown National Park" for birds, bees, and butterflies.
