My name is Dr. Jaeson Clayborn. I earned my PhD in Biology at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida. For my doctoral work, I quantified host plant survivorship, as part of an extensive habitat restoration project for the federally endangered Schaus’s swallowtail butterfly, and investigated ant predation impacts against the Schaus’s swallowtail in dry forest habitat. In addition, part of my research focused on developing and implementing an insect conservation curriculum unit applied in classrooms and homes in south Florida communities. This facet allowed me to bridge the gap between my academic pursuits and public education, and strengthen my commitment to community outreach. Currently, I am an adjunct professor at FIU and Miami Dade College and the president of The North American Butterfly Association (NABA) Chapter of South Florida, Inc. (d/b/a Miami Blue Chapter), which is a non-profit organization dedicated to lepidopteran (butterflies, moths, and skippers) conservation, research, and educational outreach. I am a conservationist, research scientist and environmental outreach educator; education and research in the sciences are my passion.
