After being a university professor of animal science for nearly 40 years, my wife, Brenda, and I retired to the Alto community, nestled in the majestic, pine forested Sacramento Mountains. Our closest neighbors include a plethora of wildlife species that include birds and small and large mammalian species (elk, mule deer and feral horses), as well as a wide diversity of plant species.
