🐝🌳🍄🌎🏳️‍🌈I'm a naturalist who loves living things and being outdoors. In 2019 I stopped working so I could travel more and spend more time in nature. I'm originally from the beautiful driftless area of Wisconsin, hence the screen name which I use on other platforms as well.

If I've identified one of your observations to something general like "plants" or "mammals" it's because it had no initial identification and was unlikely to be seen by specialist volunteer identifiers. Putting a general identification on an observation increases the odds it will come up in the searches these identifiers use. It's better if you provide at least some level of identification yourself when you upload. Never just trust the computer vision suggestions unless you have reasons to believe it's correct.

I participate in the Caterpillars of Eastern North America project by adding life stage annotations to butterfly and moth observations that are in the larval stage. As of the end of 2024 I've reviewed over 76k observations for the project.
