I'm a retired investigative journalist (Seattle Times, New York Times, other media), Columbia University adjunct professor and author. My family has had a cabin on Grant Island, BC, Canada, near Sechelt in the Salish Sea, for more than 50 years. I know how lucky we are.

For the past eight years or so, I've worked part-time on a book on all the living things I can photograph and identify on Grant Island, or in the air or water immediately adjacent to it.

I'm writing a page on each. I'll publish it for family or a wider audience. I'm over 200 pages and loving this part-time project. Obviously it will have to be expandable as I'm better able over time to photograph and identify the harder-to-see species.

Appreciate naturalists' guidance and help identifying species, especially along the Sunshine Coast.
