I like iNaturalist because they open up my data to everyone. It is great that iNaturalist transfers the validated observations to the worldwide scientific database GBIF (https://www.gbif.org), without data loss, in order to make them fully available forever. At GBIF, scientists can easily perform queries and downloads, e.g. based on taxon or a spatial filter. GBIF data can also be queried from various programming languages thanks to its REST API.
