I'm a biologist in Edmonton, Alberta with a particular interest in micromoths, though I'll look at beetles and other insects, and even plants and megafauna if there aren't enough exciting bugs around. When I'm not curating Lepidoptera nomenclature, I traipse around Alberta to marvel at the our biodiversity, and I help set up and organize the local City Nature Challenge and the June Biodiversity Challenges across western Canada.

I was the lead author of a comprehensive checklist of Lepidoptera of Canada and Alaska (Pohl et al. 2018; free download: https://books.pensoft.net/books/13080). A 2-page errata is here: https://doi.org/10.13140/RG.2.2.22285.29925.
I am also co-editor of the checklist of Lepidoptera of North America, maintained on the Moth Photographers Group website (https://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/). The latest 2025 checklist update is free here:

The complete original 2023 list (Pohl & Nanz editors 2023) is now open-access here:

I've started online journal lists of new Lepidoptera records in western Canada since the 2018 Canada-AK checklist:

I continue to document/compile Lepidoptera species records in western Canada, and I appreciate being tagged on new province/territory records.
