I’m the Curator of Herpetology at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. I study the natural history, evolution, and conservation of reptiles and amphibians. Lately, this research is increasingly focused towards understanding the impacts of urbanization on biodiversity. In particular, thousands of museum records, including many of those I curate, were locally collected in southern California and provide a historical record of changes in distributions of species through time. From these specimens, I have become increasingly interested in citizen science as a way to get very detailed views of current distributions to see how species are responding to various aspects of urbanization.
