I have a master in biology from University of Copenhagen and a PhD in biochemistry from LSU Health Sciences Center, New Orleans.
I enjoy field botany and took part in the Atlas Flora Danica project by determining +400 species of vascular plants in each of two 5 x 5 km squares in Denmark.
I have found iNaturalist to be an extremely useful tool for determining plants, at least by directing you to correct family or genus in most cases. In fact, it’s the best field guide, I’ve ever had.

Currently, I am trying to identify the wild plants that I encounter in the urban landscape of greater New Orleans. I try to put species designations to as many observations as possible based on various flora manuals and keys, as well as best guesses from similarities to other observations from the region.

Observing wild plants is a wonderful hobby. It can be done everywhere. The great outdoors awaits just outside your front door.
