A nature freek since very young, I gradually developed my bird identification skills, later plant identification and mammal tracking. I have a background in tropical ecology and have travelled the world as a specialised nature guide for over ten years. Gradually, my skills in species identification got enriched by a great talent to facilitate rare and special wildlife encounters that trigger a rerooting of our own connection to nature.

My upbringing was in the Netherlands were at young age I tracked Marsh Harriers in a small canoe in the Dutch polders. I lived in Suriname for 8 years, the country of my grandmother who used to be a guide in the tropical rainforest. As director of WWF in Suriname and Guyana, nature conservation practices, which included organizing Biodiversity Assessments in placed without any scientific documentation, were my everyday business.
