Nicholas DeMaio

Since I was little boy, I was always interested in the things I found in nature. Unfortunately, my parents weren't outdoorsy people, and so this interest wasn't nurtured. As a man, I've rediscovered both my interest in nature and my freedom to explore it on lunch-hour retreats from my mundane desk job (from a former career) to the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. I started noticing birds I'd never noticed before. I began looking them up online to ID them, and I became hooked (did all these species exist before the internet?). After I received my first pair of binos for Christmas in '13, I officially became a birder, and while birding is my primary recreational discipline (wait, that's an oxymoron, right?). Actually, my main hobby is simply *learning* - about anything. Learning is its own reward, and God is my Master Teacher. I'm so amped I found iNat to celebrate and discuss observations (and my relative ignorance about them). I love people, too, so whoever you are, please introduce yourself.
