My early lessons in ecology were the hunting tales around the campfire, debriefs from the day's pursuit full of hypotheses (and perhaps embellishments) about our successes and failures. In my adult years, I've logged 15 some odd years of dedicated study of the natural world. I've been a naturalist/guide in Montana and Alaska, a wildland restoration project manager, and a professional plant propagator. Currently my wife and I own our own consulting business offering GIS analysis, cartography and data visualization for conservation groups. We live most of the year in Northwest Washington, but we have a soft spot in our hearts for Costa Rica, Baja, Sonora, and the deserts of California, Arizona, and West Texas.

Ecological connections are what fascinate me, and I seek out all types of life, from mountain lions to moths. And tracks and sign, clues left on the landscape, pique my interest as much as the animal itself.
