Mostly a self-taught amateur naturalist, though as part of a wildlife degree I've taken some introductory and intermediate courses in entomology, mammalogy, and herpetology. And as a personal interest, I've spent the past decade learning more about local plants and fungi. So I'm most comfortable identifying within those groups.

Primarily focused on observing and identifying species in eastern/northeastern North America. I do my best to only identify down to a level that I'm reasonably sure of, but especially as an amateur there's always things that can be missed - specific diagnostic traits, look-alikes from other groups, phenotypic plasticity in a species, groups that are only distinguishable by microscopy, etc.
