What

Muehlenbeckia Stem Gall Moth (Morova subfasciata)

Observer

jon_sullivan

Date

October 14, 2001

Description

Galls with larvae on Muehlenbeckia australis.

Oblong swollen woody stems, each containing a single larva. Larva pupates and ecloses in the gall and exits through an exit hole. Collected were two galls, one containing a larva (voucher JJS-011014-2) and the other with an exit hole and containing an empty pupal skin and many small white eggs (voucher JJS-011014-3, discarded after nothing hatched).

The larvae pupated sometime during the week of 20-29 October (fresh and wiggling on 30 October so most likely recent). Wings never fully formed. Put in ethanol.
