Near Big Meadows Campground, Shenandoah National Park, VA. Along small, dry, stony streambed. Many large individuals with long (ca. 30 cm) and thick (>2 mm) sporophylls. With Dichanthelium, Viola, Caltha palustris, Persicaria spp., Lobelia cardinalis, Lycopus, Sphagnum and other mosses. Overhead: Small Acer rubrum, Fagus grandifolia, Crataegus. Rooted 2 cm in brown sandy-clay soil.
