Old turtle found on land. The adults of this species are sometimes found foraging on land . There are only two native species of emydid turtles on the main islands of Japan and they fill different ecological niches. This one is called ishi-game or rock turtle and for good reason; they are a stream turtle that lives above the elevation of M. reevesi. The inat common name of pond turtle is grossly incorrect.
