Valves are nearrow linear-clavate and the, with a subcapitate headpole. One rimonpotula is present near the widest part of the valve face. The sternum is narrow. Costae are present throughout but difficult to see near the footpole.

Alansmithii differs from ciculare var. constricum because of the different placement of the rimonportula.
