Large specimen in 3m depth via snorkel,Black Point near the cuttlefish breeding ecotourism site. Several seen at each of our 2 snorkel sites for the day. As has been noted earlier by Dan Monceaux this species of sea star seems to prefer upper Spencer Gulf's habitat. Of course we know the pitfalls and limitations of anecdotes ( e.g. neither of us looks in deeper water nearly as often as we do shallower sites and even on scuba the area covered per dive diminishes greatly with small increments in depth),but I think it is true even so. (Almost the signature or icon starfish species for Whyalla, you could say?)
