This is a Trowbridge Shrew, confirmed by Targe Lindsay at Stanford. It was caught in a rat trap, hence the swayback. It still has some peanut butter in its' mouth. The penny is for size comparison. I have since caught several of these small rodents which explain sprung traps but no evidence of what did the springing.
