Identified through dentition (plus the long tail) - second picture shows minute, third unicuspid. This is a research specimen, and since there aren't many definitive photos of American Pygmy Shrews online, I've uploaded it for reference. Note grayish pelage (not reddish - this is more obvious when compared to other Sorex spp. in the S. Appalachians), bicolor tail, and size.
