What

Low Larkspur (Delphinium bicolor)

Observer

Date

Description

Note the two lower petals (in flower center, not the outer ring of five purple sepals) with only very shallow notching (<2mm) and covering stamens.

The updated Delphinium entry in Flora of North America now shows only D. bicolor and D. glaucum present in AB. By contrast, ACIMS and the new Kershaw-Allen key to Ranunculaceae also include D. nuttallianum, which is however distinguished by distinctly notched lower petals (by >2mm) which are elevated to show the stamens (and also by root differences).
