Abundant. Saxicolous on basaltic rock (pillow lava and associated hyaloclastite) and fractured arenaceous greywacke facies running up from within spray zone to cliff tops. Growing admixed with Ramalina meridionalis (see http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations/2626112).

Thallus pendulous, much divided from base, secondary branches numerous arising at right angles to main branches. Specimens sparingly fertile. Thallus medulla K-.
