Description

This Bobcat returned after a three day absence. Stalking red squirrels and checking out the bird feeders but showing no interest in the suet cakes or sunflower seeds. This is the Eastern Bobcat sub-species based on the most recent sub-species classification (2017) by the cat working group. Historically there were 13 sub-species and now only two with the Mexican sub-species still under review. The other North American sub-species is L. r. fasciatus, found west of the Great Plains. The lumpers call it a bobcat and the splitters give it the sub-species moniker. Both are correct.
