Description

Vibrant blue Albatrellus(entire fruiting body from cap to stem), visible, large pores, tapered, smooth stipe to minutely hirsute near stem/cap apex. Wavy stem, dense, flexible. Cap: depressed, to hygrophenous, somewhat wavy. Margin incurved and dense. Approximately 5cm tall. Much smaller than A. flettii or any of our usual Albatrellus suspects in this mid elevation understory. Slight discoloration to stem when handled- somewhat brown on stem base towards the bottom.

In dense moss, beneath Western red cedar directly. Other trees in canopy: Douglas Fir, Western Hemlock, Spruce spp., Maple near streams.

Elevation: 1800ft.

Temp: low 40’s.

Dried/bagged specimen for home herbarium collection.
